ESNZ seeks new Eventing High Performance Manager

Equestrian Sports New Zealand (ESNZ) High Performance is calling for Expressions of Interest for the ESNZ High Performance Manager (Eventing) role for 2017-2018.

In a post-Olympic year there are usually some changes in team management and four high profile eventing nations - Britain, Germany, Australia and New Zealand – are just some currently undertaking the review process.

Last month ESNZ announced that Erik Duvander, who has led the high profile and highly successful New Zealand eventing squads for the past ten years, had decided to step down from the role to spend more time with his family. With the majority of the top Kiwi riders being based in the UK, whoever steps into his role will also be required to be UK based

The ESNZ website outlines the description of the role as;

“The High Performance Manager will be a key part of the Eventing High Performance Team which is tasked with delivering a world-leading eventing high performance programme that produces repeatable and sustainable successes at Olympic and World Championships.  Based in the United Kingdom, the Eventing HP Manager will be accountable for leadership and management of the NZ Eventing Team campaign programme. Applicants will need to have:

  • Proven leadership and management skills
  • Understanding of international Eventing competitions, rules and environment
  • High Performance sport experience
  • Skills and ability to support and challenge high performance athletes, including experience with performance analytics
  • UK-based, but required to support and lead NZ- domiciled riders also
  • Available for international travel and competitions globally.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills”

With several top coaches around the world currently reviewing their options it will be interesting to see how the new team managements for various nations look in 2017
