Olympian and defending champion Megan Jones once again leads the way at the Hanson Tonimbuk International Horse Trials on board her 13-year-old Holsteiner mare RLE Barina after the dressage and show jumping phases

After a wet start to the day which saw a few changes to arenas and timings, the VRW Civil CCI4* got underway on one of the newly re-surfaced sand arenas (courtesy of sponsors VRW Civil and Hanson) which held up magnificently despite the wet weather and number of horses

Megan had three in the 4* class and didn’t have the easiest of rides on the first – the in-season mare Guhr – and it was last year’s runners-up, Sam Jeffree and Woodmount Lolita who took the lead on a score of 29.6. But Megan showed her experience, coming back on her second horse RLE Barina, winner of the CCI4*-S at the Zeep EA Horse Trials in February, to move ahead of Sam with a score of 28.7

Another local rider, David Middleton riding WEC In the Money took third place after dressage on 35.6

The top three maintained their positions with clear rounds in the evening’s indoor show jumping while Sophia Hill (nee Landy) moved up from ninth into fourth thanks to a clear show jumping round on Humble Glory

Lily Wickenden and Fuerst Sensation currently lead the CCI3*-S with Sam Jeffree again in second and third places in this class on board Koyuna Tactician and Kenlock Cadillac

The Horseland CCI2*, a class that will show jump in the morning, is led by Chelsea Priestley riding Southern Sandro Stern while the two sections of CCN1*, sponsored by KER and Barastoc, are led by Jess Grosmann riding Incline Park Remembrance and Stephanie Rowe on board Erinlea Tatiaana after the dressage
