Ben Leathers Eventing

Ben Leathers equestrian | An Eventful Life

Australian Event rider and BE Accredited Coach, Ben Leathers BHSI, is based at his own yard with his family in Partridge Green, West Sussex. Here he runs Homelands Equestrian, a 5* Livery, Competition and Training facility with his wife Jo and their dedicated team.

Whilst running his business, which includes coaching British Eventing clinics, coaching private clients and training Pony Clubs and Riding clubs, along with currently 22 liveries, Ben also competes in British Eventing competition, currently up to Novice / CIC1* riding his own horses, Kauto Cyreo and Con Rico and competing Lady Solaire for her owner Angela Poston. He brought his talented Kauto Cyreo on from literally racing furlongs to finishing the 2017 season with some CIC1*’s, including winning the highest placed RoR in the Mitsubishi Motors Cup 100 (18th overall) in 2017. A lot of his success is helped by the great support he has from the strong team at his yard, his family and his sponsors, Four Seasons Equestrian, Well Gel, Keyflow Feeds, IeSportsMedia & Surrey Equine Massage.

Ben has competed on performance horses all of his life. His equine story started back in Australia where he was an active member of the Diamond Valley Pony Club and competed regularly at the Agricultural shows becoming Champion Rider on several occasions. On moving to the UK with his parents in 1985, Ben continued to ride and quickly earned his coaching status. He gained valuable insight in working in professional and private yards before establishing his own spotless and well-catered equine facilities.

In 2007 he was awarded the ABRS Scholarship for training and in 2008 Ben started training with the likes of Chris Bartle, Jane Bartle-Wilson and Judy Harvey to receive his BHSI and British Eventing Accreditation in 2009.

Ben is an established teacher and coach, taking Pony Club teams to many dressage championships, training private clients to Intermediate Eventing and giving the foundation work to some of the up and coming Eventers and Dressage riders on the circuit now.

Ben is also a Retained Firefighter for WSFRS giving cover throughout the week and weekends alongside running his yard, riding, training and competing. Amongst all this he still finds time for his wife Jo and their son Joshua.
