Carola Brighenti | An Eventful Life

I’m Carola Brighenti, I’m Italian and I currently work in Tokyo as the Eventing Coordinator for the 2020 Olympic Games.

Born in Brescia, Northern Italy, in 1990 to a very non-horsey family, my first time on a pony was during a summer holiday with my parents. When I was five I started riding at my hometown riding school and, after a couple of months, I had to make the tough decision to quit classic ballet lessons to be able to ride more - it’s fair to say I’ve never regretted that.

Eventing became a huge passion when I was about 12 years old. Even though I never wanted to be a professional rider and I never had the opportunity to ride at a 4* level, being able to represent Italy at a Junior and a Young Rider European Championship were dreams come true.

While riding I also pursued my studies and I graduated in Languages and Modern Literatures and then took a post-degree Master in Event Management.

In 2015 I fell out of love with being a rider, but I still wanted to focus on a professional career that would allow me to be part of the equestrian world and to be involved in eventing in particular.

After a year trying to find the right opportunity, I was lucky enough to be part of the organising team at Blair Castle Horse Trials in 2017 and 2018 and I now work as the Eventing Coordinator for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games
