Julia Hargreaves | An Eventful Life

 

Julia’s riding career began at the Royal Hong Kong Jockey Club’s facility at Beas River when she was 7 years old.

The Hargreaves family moved to Connecticut in the United States when Julia was 9, and she continued her training at Ox Ridge Hunt Club for the following four years, riding successfully on the equitation–hunter circuit.

The family returned to Australia in 1997, and Julia attended New England Girl”s School where she rode successfully on the school team for the next 5 years.

She completed her schooling at Northholm Grammar in Sydney, again representing her school with distinction on the riding team. During this time, Julia trained with Vicki Roycroft, who accompanied her to Europe for three months’ training and competition in 2003.

Julia has been training with George Sanna since 2005. With her first schoolmaster Grand Prix horse, Haymen, Julia quickly rose through the ranks, to be named National Champion Young Showjumping Rider in 2007 after a series of wins riding her mare Courchevel, as well as Copabella’s stallion, Visage, and Haymen. She began competing successfully at World Cup level in 2008.

With her recent successes including winning the World Cup COC qualifier and EFA Perpetual Trophy at the 2011 Sydney Royal, 3rd in the Bell Tea Olympic Cup COC qualifier at HOYS, New Zealand and being a member of the winning Australian team in Nations Cup at HOYS, Julia is now aiming for Olympic selection. With her top horse, Vedor, an 8-year-old warmblood by Indoctro, Julia is now based in Europe with Edwina Tops-Alexander at Stal Tops
