I started riding when I was about 6 or 7 years old. My family was very horsy (Dad trained a few slow gallopers with his crowning glory winning a race at the Alexandra picnic meeting). My sisters and I all attended Macclesfield Pony Club and that’s where I met my future wife Rosemarie (I don’t think she really noticed me back then).

I loved to event and did some Restricted Novice EFA events. All that went on hold when I started my Farrier Apprenticeship at the age of 15, with Phil Roberts (of Horseland fame), continued with Russ Hardy (of Boomerang Park, UK fame) and finished my time with John Pittard (of Pluto Mio fame).

It was through my long friendship with John and Jane Pittard that led me to be riding the beautiful grey horse,  Mio Jupiter, the older (but in my opinion better!) full brother of Pluto Mio.

I was also lucky enough to acquire a super little horse from my racing clients called ‘Tomahawk Tom’ a few years ago. I competed him up to Prelim and Katja Weimann continued with him and had lots of success at 2 star level, winning many events along the way. We decided to retire him as we were worried about him breaking down, and we would never forgive ourselves for a horse that had given everything in racing and eventing. I now also have a nice young thoroughbred off the track. I hope he will be half the horse that Tom has been.
