Barry Roycroft - Australia Day Honours

Congratulations to Barry Roycroft, honoured in the 2016 Australia Day Honours List with the Order of Australia, for his lifetime commitment to equestrian sport

71 year old Barry Roycroft has contributed significantly to the development of equestrian sport in Australia and particularly his home State of Victoria over many years

As part of the legendary Roycroft family Barry first became involved in the sport as a rider and he attended three Olympic Games – twice as a show jumper (1960, 1976) and once as an eventing rider (1988). When he finished competing Barry continued to play an active role in the sport becoming a international level Eventing judge and travelling the world, serving on the ground jury of many of the world’s leading CCI4* and CCI3* events.

A member of Equestrian Australia’s Hall of Fame, Barry has been declared a Member in the General Division of the Order of Australia (AM) for significant service to equestrian sports, as an administrator, coach and competitor.

As well as officiating internationally he served on numerous committees including the Board of Equestrian Victoria, Eventing Victoria (of which he was Chair) and the National Eventing Committee. Barry is also a Level 3 NCAS Eventing and Jumping Coach and the founder of the Lakes and Craters Three Day Event which has been running since 1978 in his home town of Camperdown, Victoria
