Bettina Hoy becomes FEI Athlete Representative for Eventing

Bettina Hoy won her fourth German Championship title in 2017

“I want to see the sport I love continue to grow. The challenges that have driven change in recent years must become positive, enabling us to showcase our sport at the highest levels globally for years to come” says Bettina Hoy, who has been nominated as the Athlete Representative for Eventing at the FEI Board Meeting on 10th November

Following the end of the voting period which took place from 1 July to 31 October 2022, the FEI Director of Governance & Institutional Affairs confirmed the Athletes that have been elected in each FEI discipline at the first day of the FEI General Assembly in Cape Town (RSA)

Bettina’s achievements in the sport include competing at three Olympic Games (Team Bronze), five World Championships (Team Gold and Bronze), 10 European Championships (Individual Gold and Bronze plus Team Bronze), winning two CCI5*’s (Kentucky and Luhmuhlen) and being German National Champion on four occasions

More recently Bettina has focussed on coaching, including work with the Australian squads

“I have been coaching championship and squad riders from nations such as the USA, UK, Japan, Germany, India, Brazil, Switzerland, NZ & Australia and attending competitions across the US, Europe, and Australia. This makes me very accessible, providing rider dialogue across hemispheres at the top level for both established and emerging nations” said Bettina in her Letter of Motivation

Introduced in 2014, the Athletes’ Committee was designed to give a voice to the athletes within the FEI decision making process and ensure that they represented the interests of their community.

The position is a non-renewable four-year term from 2022-2026; Bettina was the sole candidate for the discipline of eventing and follows William Fox-Pitt who held the position from 2018-2022 and Daisy Berkeley (2014-2018)
