Sam Jeffree tops the board at National Interschool Eventing

      Sam Jeffree and Jaybee Calypso

One of the stars of the future, Victorian rider Sam Jeffree has taken out the top eventing class at the National Interschool Championships held at the Sydney International Equestrian Centre (SIEC) from 29th September to 1st October

Sam, who recently won the Equestrian Victoria Eventing Young Rider of the Year, won the CNC1* riding Jaybee Calypso, a horse previously campaigned by Chris Burton and Jack Hayden. In the past two years Sam and Jaybee Calypso have forged a partnership which is bringing them well deserved success – at the Dirk Schrade clinic at Equitana last year, Dirk commented that “I like the way he canters around in a light seat, I love to see that because it makes it very easy for the horse to travel and he does it in an economical manner for the rider as well. He basically makes the back of the horse very empty so it’s easy for the horse to travel and this is what riding cross country is all about”

Sam certainly made it easy work for Jaybee Calypso in the dressage and cross country phases, starting with a great score of 39.90 and double clear in the cross country. Their strong dressage score well ahead of the rest of the field meant that even two rails in the showjumping could not prevent their win on a score of 47.90 while NSW riders Jordyn Faint on Double S & Evergreen Jackpot finished second (57.60) and Olivia Barton riding Sandhills Darcy finished third (62.80).

Sam and Jaybee Calypso also competed in the National Interschool Dressage, placing second in the Advanced 5.2 and third in the Advanced 5.3 test, proving that their score in the eventing dressage was certainly no fluke!

In the other eventing classes Lucy Ramsay (NSW) won the EVA105, Victoria Wicks won the EVA95 and Matilda Seppelt won the EVA80
