Clayton (seen here at Barbury) will be hoping for a good result at Malmö
This weekend we’ve got a few different events to keep an eye on both here at home in Australia and overseas.
In NSW, the small town of Harden (home town to blogger Natalie Blundell) are running their event and we are hoping that Natalie and/or her mum will have some time to fill us in on who did what. These small country events are vital to our sport and we wish all those riders, who brave what is predicted to be very chilly weekend, a great couple of days of eventing.
Now all things equestrians in the Olympics have come to an end (with of course the Para-Olympics to start soon) our attention is turned to the Burghley build up. For many Burghley riders, Hartpury this weekend, provides a good hit out two weeks before the 4* with the running of their CIC3* this weekend and several Australians including Megan Jones and Tim Boland are competing.
With day one of dressage over Chris Burton and Kinnordy Rivaldo are leading the field on a score of 37.3, while Tim Boland and GV Billy Elliot are sitting in third place on 40.6. Megan Jones has also completed her test with Kirby Park Allofasudden, finishing on a score of 50, which left her in 20th place.
Today Sam Griffiths riding Real Dancer and Bill Levett riding Shannondale Titan/Improvise will do their test while the whole field of around 100 riders will do their cross country and show jumping rounds on Saturday.
Libby Law will be there for An Eventful Life capturing all the action so keep an eye out for the Hartpury Gallery.
Over in Sweden there is more eventing action happening, this time at Malmö with the running of the FEI World Cup™. Clayton Fredericks is Australia’s sole representative and will have a busy weekend riding three horses, Bendigo, Brookleigh and Walterstown Don. With half the field having completed the dressage phase, Clayton is sitting in the enviable position of first (Bendigo) and second (Brookleigh) on 39.6 and 43.9 respectively.
The other Australian connection to Malmo is that Gill Rolton, fresh (or possibly a little tired) from her Olympic role on the Ground Jury is now at Malmo as head of the CIC3*-W Ground Jury. We look forward to catching up with Gill when her feet touch back down in Australia and she can fill us in on her Olympic experience.
