FEI Eventing World Challenge

Horse and rider competing at Sydney Eventing Summer Classic | An Eventful Life

Further information regarding the FEI Eventing World Challenge, a new concept proposed in 2022 and ratified at the FEI General Assembly, is now available

The new FEI World Challenge series, which will run in the disciplines of Jumping, Dressage, Eventing, Vaulting and Para Dressage, has been developed as an introduction to the sport, serving as an education basis at grassroots level

Designed to offer athletes the opportunity to compete internationally without having to leave their own country, as factors such as travel cost and distances often prevent the less experienced countries to progress towards the first International level, it offers a pathway towards the first International level at CCI1*, introduced in 2019

17 National Federations have shown interest in taking part in the 2023 pilot season to test the format which will be based on a One Day Event format and will be available in three Categories:

Category A : 1x Dressage Test + 1x Jumping Course (1m maximum height) followed by a Cross Country Course (95cm-1m maximum height)

Category B : 1x Dressage Test + 1x Jumping Course (90cm maximum height) followed by a Cross Country Course (90cm maximum height)

Category C:  1x Dressage Test + 1x “Derby” course with Jumping and Cross Country Fences (80cm maximum height)

Athletes are to be aged 12 years old and above for Categories B & C and 14 years old and above for Category A and the FEI Eventing World Challenge will offer an Individual classification per Category (National and World rankings) and a Team classification.

The FEI Eventing World Challenge will also aim to provide a good basis for the education of non-riding participants such as Officials, Coaches, Organisers. For coaches, the technical aspects of the courses correlate with the Levels 1 and 2 of the FEI Coach Education System.

For the riders, the format of the competitions has been developed to offer a progression from an Introduction level to the discipline of Eventing (Category C) with a focus on enjoyment and safety to the level just below CCI1* (Category A).

The FEI Eventing World Challenge will run between the 1st January and the 31 December.
