The eventing season may be off a few weeks’ off starting again in both hemispheres but there’s plenty of activity happening at Werribee Park Equestrian Centre near Melbourne, where the first ever Frangible Fence Build Workshop is taking place.
Stuart Buntine, head of the FEI Eventing Safety Committee and UK-based event organiser BEDE Events, is in Australia to head up the FEI Frangible Fence Build Workshop at Werribee Park. He is joined by the BEDE course-building team of Chris Eaton and Will Seely plus Sweden’s Mats Bjornetun, creator of the MIMSafe technology, to work with some of Australia’s top cross country course builders.
The Workshop started today (Tuesday 13th January) with a presentation about the need for frangible technology and the future of the sport, before the course builders swung into action with their tools. Four groups will each build their own frangible fences over the next two days, not only learning from the process but also creating new frangible fences to be used in the future.
Debbie Higgs caught up with Stuart, Chris and Will at Werribee Park to find out more. Anyone interested in seeing the fences being built and hearing more from the experts in this field are welcome to attend a Q&A session on Wednesday evening from 7:30pm at Werribee National Equestrian Centre in Victoria.
The fence building process is also being recorded and will be available in the near future via FEI channels.
