Hints about hay for horses

As the paddocks dry off and turn to dust in the Australian summer and grazing for our horses on good quality pasture becomes a luxury, the feeding of hay becomes a necessity for many horse owners.

With the price of hay becoming more and more expensive it’s important to think about how we feed and store our hay to ensure we get the most for our money. The expense factor can also lead us to think that buying lower quality might be a better option. However that could prove to be a false economy when:

A/ The horse might not eat the hay

B/ The hay might be mouldy which could lead to other health problems for your horse … leading to a visit from the vet!
