Blyth Tait retires from elite level eventing

Blyth finishes his dressage test at Tryon World Equestrian Games 2018

58-year-old Blyth Tait has hung up his boots from elite level eventing after a career that has spanned many years and remarkable achievements including four Olympic medals – gold ( Atlanta 1996), silver (Barcelona, 1992) and two bronze (1992, 1996) – and four World Championship gold medals (two team medals and two individual in 1990 and 1998)

Blyth, who returned to New Zealand to base himself last year has made the decision not to return to the UK to campaign towards Tokyo 2020, and made the announcement at the Land Rover Horse of the Year show yesterday

“I think the time is right” says Blyth with his usual humour “Based on the fact that, when I fall off, I don’t bounce like I used to!”

As Blyth points out, he may not be competing at international events in the future but he will be designing courses for them, including the CCI2*-S and national tracks at Burgham International in Northumberland and at Sydney International Horse Trials in Australia

We're looking forward to still seeing him around and about the world of eventing!
