Daiki Chujo goes clear in the CIC2* at Albury

Japanese rider Daiki Chujo, (pictured above) was born an hour north of Tokyo and didn’t see a real horse until he was 14 years old, but as soon as he started riding he realized it was going become a passion. By 16 Daiki discovered that Japan wasn’t the best place to learn more about riding so he moved to Australia and enrolled in the Australian Racing Industry Training Centre, to train as a jockey.

After graduating as a jockey Daiki decided to continue with horses but more along the lines of coaching and the Olympic disciplines, so he gained his EA Level 1 and started show jumping and eventing.

The dream continued as this determined young man took himself off to England where he worked for Andrew and Bettina Hoy for a couple of years before returning back to Australia. Daiki, who has represented Japan at the Asian Pacific Challenge where he finished second, is now based in Newcastle, NSW, close to Heath and Rozzie Ryan.

We caught up with Daiki as he finished his CIC2* cross country ride on GY Printemps. Not one to rely on a huge amount of help Daiki jumped off his horse and immediately started washing and scraping, whilst trying to hold his mare as well. We were glad to be able to give him a hand and then find out more about this lovely young man, who has his eyes on WEG selection.
