I love this sport

A happy Marguerite and Lindsay enjoy a break after thier lesson at SIEC

Marguerite Mckeown moved from Northumberland in England to Australia in the early 1980’s and since that time has been involved with eventing in New South Wales. She rode at one day events held at St.Gregs and Hawkesbury (both of which no longer run) and for a number of years was a committee member of NSW Horse Trials (now called Eventing NSW). When Greame Beveridge came up with the idea of starting The Eventer magazine (for NSW Horse Trials) Marguerite put her hand up to help and was the very first Editor of a magazine that is still running today – nearly 30 years later.

Marguerite talks with her coach for the day, Sandy Lucas

We spoke to Marguerite at the recent cross country clinic at SIEC where she was riding her horse Loony or Lovely Lindsay (it depends which mood he is in explained Marguerite) and asked her where her passion for horses and eventing began and what her plans were for this year.

A little earlier in the day we caught Marguerite on video as she took part in her lesson with coach Sandy Lucas. Lindsay was pretty determined to chip in a short stride before the log coming out of the water but on the third attempt he started to get the idea and both Marguerite and Lindsay went on to enjoy a lovely day at SIEC – despite the forty degree heat!

Take 1 ...

Take 2 ... note how Marguerite softens her hands as soon as she is told!

Take 3 ... well done - you did it!
