Karen Amore - Vic Eventing Coordinator

Karen Amore joined Equestrian Victoria as the new Eventing Co-ordinator at the very end of April and we caught up with her to find out a bit more about her.

As her name implies Karen is of Italian background but is a local girl from Werribee, so lives very close to the hub of all things equestrian in Victoria at Werribee Park. Although she has never ridden and had no particular interest in eventing before joining Equestrian Victoria she loves being in a administrative role with lots of interaction with people and is loving the job so far.

“I’m a very ‘people’ person so an administrative job like this where you’re dealing with people all the time is perfect for me” says Karen “I’m really impressed by the people I’ve met in the sport so far. They seem very hard working and down to earth and I love watching them riding (but the cross country is a bit scary!)”

Karen applied for the job when it was advertised, having been told about it by her friend and Equestrian Victoria Dressage Co-ordinator Iole Brzozek.

As well as being the Eventing Co-ordinator Karen’s role includes being the Interschool Coordinator, NCAS Coaching Coordinator and High Performance Pathways Coordinator and she works five days a week in the office at Werribee Park. There are also the occasional weekends when she helps run events at Werribee Park, such as the Melbourne 3 Day Event Fundraiser when we met her.

However, although she had started work at Equestrian Victoria just before this year’s Melbourne International 3 Day Event, she already had a holiday booked which meant she wasn’t actually around during that weekend.

“It seemed to go incredibly well and I’m looking forward to being more involved next year” she says “I’ll probably know a lot more by then and be much more useful!”

She was involved with the Victorian Interschools Championships in early July “The kids were brilliant” she says “It was a great event to be involved but very big”

Karen is married and has two children of her own aged 21 and 19 and outside of work is involved with fundraising for the Relay for Life, a team event dedicated to raising funds for cancer research.

The next time you’re at an event it may well be Karen behind the desk so make sure to say hi and introduce yourself
