Madeline Wilson interview

Madeline and Kolora Stud Triple 8 warm up for cross country

The two horses that the 21 year old Queenslander Madeline Wilson was riding at Quirindi 3 Day Event in July were both impressive looking animals. The 11 year old Kolora Stud Triple 8 looked familiar as Madeline warmed him up for cross country and later she told me that he had previously been ridden by Donna Smith in New Zealand; maybe that was where the bells were ringing from as Donna and the stunning looking chestnut finished third in the CCI1* when we were at Puhinui last year.

Owned by Grand Prix show jumper Michelle Lang, Kolora Stud Triple 8 came back to Queensland in 2014 and Madeline cemented her relationship with the new horse with a win at Fig Tree Pocket CIC18 in October that year. As well as being good looking, he is also a horse that ‘never wants to touch a fence’ says Madeline and indeed he jumped clear in the cross country and show jumping phases at Quirindi to finish fifth in the CCI1*

Madeline was also really happy with I’m Bruce, the seven year old gelding by Fisherman’s Friend who finished third in the CCI2*. Madeline is listed on the Eventing Queensland Futures Squad with I’m Bruce who is owned by Madeline and her father and is a horse she hopes has future 4* potential

We caught up with Madeline at Quirindi at the end of the event as they were about to start the long journey home
