The FEI has published the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games Qualification Systems for Jumping, Dressage, and Eventing following approval by the Executive Board of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) during their meeting on 8–10 December 2025.

Eventing Team and Individual quota allocation for LA28

Total Quota: 65 (including 3 from host country)

National Olympic Committee Quota: Maximum 2 Individuals or 3 per team

Only NOCs that have qualified a team are entitled to Ap athletes (one athlete and one reserve horse per team) as described in the qualification system. 'Ap' Alternate athletes could become competing athletes only under the conditions outlined in the IOC/Los Angeles 2028 Late Athlete Replacement policy.

Qualification Pathways - Team

Sixteen NOCs will obtain team qualification; one as a host country place, with 14 team quota places allocated through FEI Designated Olympic Qualification Events and one through the FEI Eventing Nations Cup 2027, as per below.

1 team (max. 3 athletes) - The host country 

7 teams (max. 21 athletes) - The seven highest ranked teams from the 2026 FEI Eventing World Championships, Aachen, GER (12 – 16 August 2026) excluding the host country team.

2 teams (max. 6 athletes) - The two highest ranked teams from the 2027 European Eventing Championship, Avenches, SUI (14 – 19 September 2027 ) from FEI Olympic Groups A and/or B, excluding teams already qualified in accordance with the qualification pathway set out

1 team (max. 3 athletes) - The highest ranked team from Group C 2027 FEI Designated Olympic Qualification Event (TBC 2027), excluding teams already qualified in accordance with the qualification pathway set out

2 teams ( max. 6 athletes) - The two highest ranked teams from FEI Olympic Groups D and/or E at the 2027 Pan American Games, Lima, PER (TBC 2027), excluding teams already qualified in accordance with the qualification pathway set out

2 teams (max. 6 athletes) - The two highest ranked teams from Olympic Groups F and/or G at a 2027 Group F and G FEI Designated Olympic Qualification Event (TBC 2027), excluding teams already qualified in accordance with the qualification pathway set out

1 team (max. 3 athletes) -The highest team according to the specific Olympic quota classification of the FEI Eventing Nations Cup Series 2027, as per the FEI Eventing Nations Cup rules 2027, excluding teams already qualified in accordance with the qualification pathway set out

Qualification Pathways - Individual

Only NOCs that have not accepted a team quota place are eligible to obtain individual quota places. Each athlete can obtain a maximum of one individual quota place for that athlete’s NOC. For Eventing, a nation can qualify for a maximum of two individual places.

The FEI Olympic Ranking – Eventing is limited to the best four results per athlete/ horse combination in these events, within the period from 1 January to 31 December 2027. The point system, including the list of events, to be used for establishing the FEI Olympic Ranking - Eventing will be published on 15 December 2026.

A total of 17 athletes will be allocated places (14 through FEI Olympic Groups and 3 through Overall Ranking)

14 athletes FEI Olympic Ranking – Eventing (allocation through FEI Olympic Groups)

I. The two highest ranked athletes in the FEI Olympic Ranking – Eventing from each of the five groups listed below will obtain one individual quota place each for their NOC.

A – North -Western Europe;

B – South -Western Europe

C – Central and Eastern Europe; Central Asia

F – Africa and Middle East

G – South -East Asia, Oceania

II. The four highest ranked athletes in the FEI Olympic Ranking – Eventing from Groups D and E (combined) – North America, Central and South America, will obtain one individual quota place each for their NOC, with a maximum of two individual quota places per NOC.

E – Central and South America

3 athletes FEI Olympic Ranking – Eventing (allocation through overall ranking) 

Three individual quota places will be allocated in descending order of the highest ranked athletes in the FEI Olympic Ranking, excluding athletes who have already obtained a quota place for their NOC through the FEI Olympic Group Rankings.

Important Timeline Dates

20 January 2028: NOCs/NFs to confirm to the FEI use of the allocated team quota places

1 February 2028: FEI to inform NOCs/NFs of allocation of individual quota places

11 June 2028: Deadline to achieve the MERs. FEI Nominated Entries

26 June 2028: LA28 Olympic Games Sport Entries deadline

14 - 30 July: 2028 LA28 Olympic Games
