The 2015 NSW State Eventing Champions

      Shane Rose and Another Biscuit

Shane Rose sealed his win in the Baxter Boots CCI3* in fine style on his up and coming horse Another Biscuit, a nine year old chestnut gelding by Another Warrior, also the sire of his 2014 Melbourne 3DE CCI3* winner Shanghai Joe.

This combination was the only one of the four left in the competition to jump clear in the show jumping phase – the grand finale of a busy few days of eventing at the NSW State Eventing Championships at Lynton, Goulburn and a particularly busy one for Shane and his team. Between them, Bimbadeen Park had brought 12 horses to Goulburn for Shane and Niki Rose to compete and Shanghai Joe had also come along for a little trip, just so that Shane could keep him ticking over, as if he didn’t have enough to do!

Shane receives the Limitless Trophy from Tim Boland

It was a very successful competition for Shane who won not only the CCI3* on Another Biscuit but also took home the Limitless Trophy as the winner of the Baxter Boots CIC3* riding CP Qualified who now heads to the Australian International 3 Day Event in a few weeks, along with his stable mate Virgil who finished fourth in this class.

Judy Clark riding Diablito looked as if she was moving along at a good pace today on the cross country but 7.2 time penalties, compared to Shane’s 2.4, kept her in second place and Christine Bates riding Adelaide Hill, another combination heading to the Australian International 3 Day Event, added only four time penalties to their dressage score to finish in third place.

Heath Ryan and Jetsetter clear Fence 6B on their second attempt

The cross country phase of the Coprice CIC2* proved influential today with Fence 6AB, two downhill rolltop brush fences being the nemesis of several riders. The fence judge was kept busy with replacing the left hand flag and, if the proposed rule change comes in whereby penalties are added for knocking down a flag, the results could look very different here next year. This is a feature fence at Goulburn and all international classes have to tackle some variation of it - some rode it beautifully, some ducked out and many looked very relieved to get it out of the way. Charlie Brister and Ashmead Her Highness, who finished in 12th place, made it look straightforward

“It rode really well for us, it seemed easy” said Charlie “Then after I finished my round, I came to watch for a while and only then realised it was causing lots of problems”

Queensland’s Madeline Wilson and Mumbo Jumbo, a relatively new ride for Madeline, also tackled it with ease to finish the competition in sixth place, moving up from 22nd after dressage with a clear show jumping round and only eight time penalties on cross country.

Only two riders completed the CIC2* cross country without time penalties – the winner Andrew Cooper riding Toronto, finishing on his dressage score of 48.80, and Soigne Jackson riding Warrego Collateral Damage. Soigne was slightly ahead of Andrew in the dressage abut one rail in the show jumping cost her the win by one penalty while the dressage leader Simon Tainsh also picked up four penalties in yesterday’s show jumping and two time penalties on cross country today to drop him down to third place.

      Andrew Cooper and Toronto

Andrew has been building a good team of horses that have had a really successful season and he also picked up fourth place in this class on the nine year old mare Fairbanks Cappuccino owned by Sarah Tipping while Jessica Rae and San Suki finished in fifth.

      Sophie Adams and Umunga

Sophie Adams and Umunga, the only combination to finish on their dressage score (although it is a dressage score that Sophie, well known for her skills in this area, was not boasting about!) won the Rocky Hill Sand & Soil CCI2*ahead of some classy competition from Katie Roots and Stuart Tinney. Sophie is often around when we’re interviewing her partner Tim Boland so it was lovely to be talking to her today about her own big win

Another young lady rider who was ‘behind the scenes’ in past years, Emily McQueen also was in the limelight at this event as the winner of the Bucas Rugs CCI1*. Emily, who was TS Jamaimo’s groom and received great praise from Chris Burton won he the CCI4* at Adelaide in 2013 on the catch ride, is now focussing on her own riding career and this win on Riddick shows that she is on the right path.

Both Emily and the second placed Jordyn Faint held off Shane Rose in third and fourth places on his two six year olds, Swiper and Mighty Mouse and Isabel English took fifth place on Nikko Brown. Isabel had a sticky moment in the CIC3* on Feldale Mouse when she took a tumble in the water and her foot became momentarily lodged in the stirrup; luckily it freed itself and Feldale Mouse headed home, leaving Isabel slightly soggy but safe. They were however looking great as they headed down the hill to the water as Andrew Cooper was coming back up on Evergem Perfection ..............

Jessica Rae and Rascal won the Roses Cafe CIC1* on their dressage score of 46.20
