Mondial du Lion Cancelled

The FEI World Championships for Young Event Horses at Le Lion d’Angers was sadly cancelled on the second day of dressage due to heavy rain and a deteriorating weather forecast for the next few days

All the 6YO competitors had finished their dressage in the morning, and about half of the 7YO's in the afternoon - competitors who were on their beautiful 7YO's after the decision was made, rode their dressage tests anyway.

The many riders who are travelling on to Pau 4* next week will stay on site here overnight as they await word from the Organising Committee at Les Etoiles de Pau Pau to hear when they will be able to arrive - these include New Zealand and  Australian riders: Mark Todd, Caroline Powell, Jonelle Richards, Bill Levett and many international riders...

It is so incredibly disappointing, however the safety of the horses and riders come first. The sales auctions will still go ahead tonight and on Saturday evening and the site and the exhibitors’ village will be opened and free on Saturday.

"We are as disappointed and sorry as you can be for this tough but unavoidable decision" said the organisers

Let’s rendez-vous next year for the 2013 Mondial from 17th to 20th October.

Libby Law did capture some STUNNING youngsters from the first three days and a few images around the soggy grounds....  take a look through the images - they really handled the heavy arena with style! There is also a photo gallery after the cancellation of the event capturing the eventers at work and play whilst waiting to head to Pau
