Qualification system for Eventing at Paris 2024 Olympic Games

How many eventing teams and individuals will compete at Paris 2024 Olympic Games?

A total of 65 horse and rider combinations will take part in the eventing competition at Paris 2024, to be made up of places allocated to national teams and individual combinations.

16 teams (48 athletes) will be allocated through the team qualification process, and 17 athletes will obtain one individual quota place each for their National Olympic Committee (NOC) through the Individual qualification process.

Eventing Team qualification process

The 16 team places are allocated as per the following, with each team consisting of three Rider/Horse combinations.

Each country is also allowed one travelling reserve combination, who can be substituted in during the competition if medical or veterinary grounds rule out one of the original team members.

  1. The host country (France)
  2. The 2022 FEI Eventing World Championships, Pratoni del Vivaro, ITA (15-18 September 2022). The seven highest ranked teams gain qualification

  3. The 2023 FEI European Eventing Championship at Le Pin du Haras, FRA (9-13 August 2023). The two highest ranked teams from FEI Olympic Groups A and/or B excluding teams already qualified

  4. The Group C 2023 FEI Designated Olympic Qualification Event (20 - 21 May 2023 at Baborowko Equestrian Festival, POL), The highest ranked team excluding teams already qualified

  5. The 2023 Group F and G FEI Designated Olympic Qualification Event (2–4 June at Millstreet International Horse Trials, IRE). The two highest ranked teams excluding teams already qualified

  6. The FEI Eventing Nations Cup Series 2023. The highest team according to the final classification of the Series, following the Series Final at Boekelo (5-8 October) excluding teams qualified as above.

  7. FEI Olympic Groups D and/or E at the 2023 Pan American Games, Santiago, CHI (26-29 October 2023). The two highest ranked teams excluding teams already qualified.

Eventing Individual qualification process

17 horse/rider combinations (from NOC’s that have not been allocated a team place) will be allocated as per the following;

14 places, made up of the two highest ranked athletes in the FEI Olympic Ranking for Eventing from each of the seven Groups;

A - North Western Europe

B - South Western Europe

C - Central & Eastern Europe; Central Asia

D & E - North America, Central & South America

F - Africa & Middle East

G - South East Asia, Oceania

Three individual places will be allocated in descending order of the highest ranked athletes in the FEI Olympic Ranking – Eventing (overall ranking/up to a maximum of two quota places per NOC)
