Queensland Interschool Eventing Championships Preview

The Queensland Interschool Eventing Championships was scheduled to take place in Maryborough, Queensland but, due to the floods and impact of heavy rain, the event has been moved to the Fig Tree Pocket Equestrian Centre just outside of Brisbane. This has obviously meant some upheaval for the organisers, including finding new officials and volunteers to help run the event as the original venue at the Maryborough Showgrounds is a good three and a half hours from the new location for the event.

Fig Tree Pocket is a well known equestrian centre in Queensland offering a full size arena, cross country course and on site horse agistment which will be perfect for the 140 or so riders competing on Saturday.

“The riders and their families come from all over Queensland and northern New South Wales so many of them will have travelled a good distance to participate” says event organiser, Nicole Lewindon

One of the entries in the Pre-Novice is Grace Buchholz who, riding Mr. Shirvington (is this the Mr. Shirvington once owned and ridden by David Middleton, I wonder?), won the Junior Pre-Novice at the NFW Queensland International 3 Day Event last weekend. There is also a One Star class with five competitors while the lower level classes are the most hotly contested.

This is an important event for the higher level competitors as the top four riders are automatically chosen for the National Interschool Championships in Toowoomba in October. As they say, a lot is riding on it

We’ll be bringing you photographs from the event so stay tuned for more........
