Video: Andrew Hoy and training concepts

Andrew Hoy returns to Australia several times a year and is a popular coach each time he returns. Having spent an afternoon watching him teach, it’s easy to understand why – his concepts are clearly articulated and the riders are left with a ‘formula’ for each of their specific problems

When someone thanks Andrew for working through a particular problem, he responds “You’re welcome but I didn’t do it for you, I just gave you a formula” and each rider is required to talk through what they have learned at the end of the session to ensure that it is fixed in their mind

“If you can’t explain it, you won’t be able to do it when you leave here and try it on your own” he tells them but also urges them to seek help if they run into problems

“I’ve been riding for a very long time and I ride at the highest level but I still seek out people I feel can help me continue to improve”

We’ll be bringing you training articles from Andrew’s clinic in Melbourne in the near future but first Debbie Higgs had a chat with him about three specific areas that she found resonated throughout the afternoon
