Hotel de la Marine in Arromanches, Normandy

Two lucky people will enjoy all of the eventing action in person at the FEI Alltech World Equestrian Games in Normandy in August 2014 as a part of our 4* Member competition. The winners will be staying at the fabulously located sea front Hotel de la Marine in Arromanche during their stay in Normandy, so we thought we would tell you a little more about the hotel and area.

In 2014, all eyes will be on not only the Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games but also the landing beaches for the 70th anniversary of D-Day and the Battle of Normandy and there will be plenty to learn from this historic occasion if you have the time to spare.

Arromanches is located in the heart of the D-Day beaches and is famous for its artificial harbour, known as "Port Winston". Here you will be able to see the remains of the 600,000 tonnes of concrete and equipment which was taken across the Channel to provide a base for the Allied troops in the remarkable manoeuvres of World War II.

The attractive, small fishing town of Arromanches has been a popular holiday resort since the 1870s and is just a few minutes from the historical city of Bayeux, famous for its tapestry, as well as being only one hour from the Mont Saint Michel and 2.5 hours from Paris. Each day of your stay for the eventing you will be taken by coach from the hotel to the venues but there is plenty to do, see and taste in the area if you decide to prolong your holiday

The Hotel de la Marine, which will provide dinner, bed and breakfast in a double or twin room for our two guests, is located right on the seafront. The hotel offers charming rooms, a restaurant well-known for its seafood and a relaxing bar where you can enjoy a drink overlooking the beach.

Can’t you just imagine sipping a cocktail here after a busy day watching the eventing?
