Peninsula Show Jumping Club Autumn Championship

The weekend of the 5th and 6th of March saw the Peninsula Show jumping club run their annual show, held at the wonderful Hillcrest Christian Collage Equestrian Venue. The fantastic and hardworking committee, consisting of Greg and Pam Smith, Suzie Moffat, Greg and Christine Stephens, Ken and Vanessa Weir, Cindy Morrison, Pauline Charlton, Clyde Sherra-Jones and Airlie Robinson, did a fantastic job of the running and setting up of the show. However this would not have been possible without the generous sponsorship of many people and businesses such as: Warragul Cranes and Transport, KWA Building Permits and Inspections, The Morrison Family, Bruce Smith Saddlery, Practijump and Mt Robinson Stud.

The first class for the show was the Open 1.05m. This class had over 50 starters and was won by Russell Morrison on his mother’s horse Ludo, second was one of the show’s sponsors Cindy Morrison on her lovely big black horse Fuerst Figaro and third was Paul Brent on Mavelock Batman.

Event two was the Open 1.15m which was won by former Adelaide resident Kelvin Blumson riding his daughter Sarah’s former mount, Emporio. Second in this class was Andrew Lamb riding his lovely Idol Rock mare DP Ricarda, and third was the eldest of the Watt brothers, Simon, riding Solaris.

Event three for the day was the 1.25m class. This class was won by the very on form Kelvin Blumson, riding his lovely throughbred horse Hendrickson. Second in this class was one the Peninsula Committee members Clyde Shera- Jones, and third was another hard working member of the committee and also sponsor, Airlie Robinson of Mt Robinson stud, riding her lovely stallion Mt Robinsons Gwaihir.

The last event for the day was when the fun really began. The 1.10m take your own line, was won by one of the hardest working members of the committee and also major sponsor Greg Stephens of Warragul Cranes and Transport. Second in this class was the middle Watt brother Matthew, riding Pakman and third in this class was Cindy Morrison riding her lovely Fuerst Figaro.

As the sun rose on Sunday the 6th of March along with it came championship day, and what a wonderful day it was going be! The first class of the day was the Warragul Cranes and Transport D grade championship, which was won by the very dominant Russell Morrison riding his and his mother, Yvonne’s Frosty Gold. Second and third in this class was Paul Brent of the Yarra Valley riding KS Dash and CP Annibell, fourth was another of the generous sponsors Bruce Smith, of Bruce Smith Saddlery, riding his Clover Flush gelding Clover Edition.

Second event for the day was the KWA Building Permits and Inspections C and D grade. This class was won by Sam Williams, brother of Beijing Olympian Matt Williams, riding Sam’s and Penny Stephens High Rail Saltbush. Second in this class was Kelvin Blumson and Emporio, third was Paul Brent and CP Annibell and fourth was Andrew Lamb and his Idol Rock mare, DP Ricarda

Third class for the day was the Bruce Smith Saddlery Open 1.20m Table C. This class was won by Clyde Shera-Jones riding his grey thoughbred Easy Dash. Second in this class was Cindy Morrison on Fuerst Figaro, third was Lilly Dipnall riding SS Lyric and fourth was Paul Brent and Northern Felicity

Last event for the day and a wonderful two days of jumping was the main class sponsored by The Morrison Family. The 1.30m Championship was won by the very excited Adam Johnson and his home bred Woodleigh Wolverine, by Woodleigh Don Juan. Second was the oldest of the Brennan brothers, Lachlan, riding his SR Offsider, third was winner of the previous class Clyde Shera- Jones and Easy dash and fourth was the on form Kelvin Blumson riding his lovely Hendrickson.

All in all, this was a wonderful weekend of show jumping, over fabulous equipment, with thanks largely going to Christine Stephens for all her hard work, a great venue and not to mention some excellent weather!
