Friday at Barbury - full wrap up

Piggy March told her fans more about the off the track thoroughbred gelding Our Old Fella earlier this year and we were smitten. Now he’s gone and won the Retraining of Racehorses Intermediate Novice class at Barbury International (the Championship completed on Sunday with a second round of show jumping)

This RoR class is normally held at the Festival of British Eventing but this year moved to Barbury and is run as an Intermediate Novice class with combinations undertaking an intermediate dressage and showjumping test but run at Novice cross country height.

Piggy and Jayne McGivern’s 10-year-old Our Old Fella, who stands just 15.2hh, led from start to finish. They started on a dressage score of 21.3 and added nothing to it for the class win with Tara Jefferies’ Good Boy Alex in second place (26.8) and Andrew Downes’ Gold Nugget, who won the same Championship in 2018, in third

When asked to try him, Piggy admits she ‘needed that like a hole in the head!’ but Piggy has fallen in love with this little horse who is as ‘cute as a button’

“There’s something about a thoroughbred horse, when they’re very intelligent, sharp and athletic – they can be absolutely great” says Piggy when Our Old Fella won at Oasby (1) earlier this year

And now he’s certainly a King of Barbury (after all he is grey!)
