Three withdrawals from this week’s Defender Burghley Horse Trials (3-6 September) include Australia’s Sophia Hill.
Sophia Hill (AUS) riding Tulara Baltango, Harry Meade (GBR) riding his first horse Superstition and Aaron Millar (GBR) riding Friendship VDL have withdrawn, leaving 53 entries in the field.
Sophia, who competed as part of the Australian team at the FEI World Championships Aachen on board Humble Glory, took Tulara Baltango to Europe, via the USA where Humble Glory had been based with Monica Spencer. A reserve horse for the Worlds, Tulara Baltango had been entered for Burghley but now both horses are returning home together.
“After a year of constant back and forth traveling, we are so excited to now be heading home to Australia” says Sophia on her social media “While we considered staying on for Burghley with Tulara Baltango, we have ultimately decided against this, and both Hughie and Tango are also Australia bound. We are so excited to have them both coming home!”
Two Australian combinations are still on the list for Burghley with Sam Jeffree riding Santoro and US-based Ema Klugman riding Chiraz, both having their first Burghley start.
Harry Meade still has two entries in Et Hop Du Matz and Cavalier Crystal.
