As Burnham Market (2) drew to a close on Sunday, the wheels were already in motion for another, much bigger, event at Burnham Market International this week. But first, let’s take a look at the winners from the usual event held here at this time of year featuring classes from BE90 up to Novice

On Saturday, Mary Edmundson was the star of the show, taking home multiple ribbons (if such things existed in Covid days!) and on Sunday it was John-Paul (JP) Sheffield who was the stand-out performer

JP won the BE100 Section I riding Isobel Crosbie's five-year-old Kingsman, normally ridden by Willa Newton who is currently not competing due to injury, and also took third place in the same class on board Seabanks They Go with Matthew Heath in second place riding Drumaclann Brexit.

JP started on a very good score of 24.3 and had one rail down in the show jumping but it was still good enough to maintain his lead on 28.3. Matt finished on his dressage score of 29.8 and will be returning in a couple of days to contest the CCI4*-S on board one of his more experienced horses Ballycoog Guinness

BE100 Section J was won by Nicole Mills on board In A Nutshell (25.8) and JP Sheffield was back in the money in second place on Special K with a pole in the show jumping once again denying him victory after starting on a dressage score of 22.5

Chloe Pearson took the BE100 Open Section K riding Jonathan Blue, finishing on their very impressive score of 16.8 with Harriette Howard and Gillian Mason both finishing on 19.3 in second and third places. And guess who was fourth? Yes, JP Sheffield!

Paul Burgess took the BE100 Open Section K riding Noble Son, blitzing the field with a dressage score of 22.8, adding just four penalties in the show jumping to finish ahead of Coral Herbert riding Lui De Ville on 32.7

The BE90 Sections M and N went to Jane Kennedy on Landor De Laubry Z and Catherine Hill riding Oeps Van Het Weidehof while Matthew Wright and the six-year-old mare Caunton First Class took her first win at this level with the Novice Section P

The team at Musketeer Event Management now do a very quick turn-around to get ready for the next arrivals at Burnham Market with the Barefoot Retreats Burnham Market International running from 17th - 20th September, a welcome replacement for Norfolk's Covid-cancelled spring International fixture

The event will also replace the cancelled Blenheim Palace International Horse Trials and will run both the CCI4* short format 8/9 Year-Old-Championships, a stand-alone CCI4*Short and the CCI4* long format normally hosted by Blenheim.

It will be the first time that the venue has hosted a four-star long format event and some of the competitors will be arriving early in the week, ready for the first horse inspection

We’ll be back with a preview of the star-studded line-up later this week and bringing you daily updates, photos and videos both on the website and through our social media channels so stay tuned to our Facebook, Instagram and Twitter for daily video snippets
