2018 Haras Du Pin Nations Cup

CICO3* Show Jumping

Maxime Livio led the French team to victory on home soil in the fifth leg of the FEI Nations Cup Eventing at Haras le Pin in Normandy today.

       Maxime Livio and Pica D'Or

Impressively finishing on his dressage score of 26.4 on board the 15-year-old gelding Pica D’Or, Maxime led from start to finish and, along with his team mates Donatien Schauly (Pivoine Des Touches), Astier Nicolas (Vinci De La Vigne) and Karim Florent Laghouag (Entebbe De Hus), also won the Nations Cup, a whopping 23.6 penalties ahead of The Netherlands in second place

Elaine Pen and Undercover jump clear for the Netherlands

Great Britain, in silver medal winning position after cross country dropped out of contention early in the day when two of its team members, Will Furlong and Collien P 2 and Tom Jackson on Billy Cuckoo, withdrew from the Hold Box at the second horse inspection. However the Dutch team produced three clear show jumping rounds from their four team riders to move into silver and Germany retained the bronze

As we predicted yesterday, two horses that have been on top form in the show jumping phase recently, Louise Svensson Jahde’s Waikiki 217 and Laura Collett’s Mr Bass, both produced clear rounds moving Louise into second place (29.4) and Laura into third place (30.4) individually

New Zealand’s Sir Mark Todd, in second place after the cross country, had one rail down on Leonidas II moving him down to ninth place. Emma Mcnab finished as the top placed Australian in 17th place on board Fernhill Tabasco with just one rail down while Chris Burton’s Cooley Lands finished in 58th and Rob Palm on Koko Story in 64th place, with two rails down

Sammi Birch and the Kincooley Ceili added just one time fault today in the show jumping to finish in 76th place

CICO3* Cross Country

France has maintained its lead after cross country with its Nations Cup team of Maxime Livio (Pica D’Or), Donatien Schauly (Pivoine Des Touches), Astier Nicolas (Vinci De La Vigne) and Karim Florent Laghouag (Entebbe De Hus) in the gold medal winning position on a total team score of 89.1.

      David Doel and Eisfee

France has more than 10 penalties in hand heading into tomorrow’s show jumping at Le Haras Du Pin in Normandy but Great Britain has moved up into silver medal winning position thanks to each of their four riders, David Doel on Eisfee, Will Furlong and Collien P 2, Fiona Kashel on Creevagh Silver de Haar and Tom Jackson on Billy Cuckoo improving on their positions after dressage

Germany is now in third place with a total score of 100.9 and is now down to three team members, with Pauline Knorr and Wilbert Bo eliminated on cross country

Sir Mark Todd and Leonidas II

Maxime Livio also continues to lead the individual rankings of the CICO3* on a score of 26.4 but he has the veteran Sir Mark Todd close behind in second place (27.6) riding Leonidas II. Both horses came home clear and under time on cross country and are relatively strong in the jumping phase although Leonidas had a little blip at Badminton this year

The one to watch in the show jumping is Sweden’s Louise Svensson Jahde whose 12-year-old mare Waikiki 217, currently in fifth place on 29.4, has not had a rail down in her last five international competitions

Andreas Ostholt and So Is Et

Louise and Sarah Bullimore on Reve Du Rouet, now the top British combination in fourth place (29.1), both jumped double clear around cross country while Germany’s Andreas Ostholt on So Is Et and Laura Collett on Mr Bass added just 1.6 time penalties each for third (28.5) and sixth (30.4) places respectively. Mr Bass has also been on good form in the show jumping recently, jumping clear at both the nations Cup at Houghton Hall for a 3* win and at Luhmuhlen for second place in the CCI4*

Australia’s Chris Burton obviously opted for a strategically steady cross country around the Haras du Pin course, adding 13.2 time penalties and dropping Cooley Lands, who is listed as one of Chris’ horses for the World Equestrian Games, down from fourth after dressage into 66th place but another WEG listed Australian combination, Emma McNab and Fernhill Tabasco took advantage of showing the selectors that they can put their foot down when needed and came home clear and under time, moving them into 13th place. Emma will be keen to make up for her ‘silly mistake’ at Luhmuhlen where they dropped two poles in the show jumping in the main arena tomorrow and, with a bit of luck, can move further up the leader board

Rob Palm, visiting from Australia and also short listed for WEG, put in a good run on cross country, jumping clear and adding just 5.6 time penalties to be in 68th place. Sammi Birch and The Kincooley Ceili jumped a steady clear to be in 88th place

CICO3* Dressage

The dressage is done at the fifth leg of the 2018 FEI Eventing Nations Cup Series at Le Haras du Pin in France and it is the home side leading the way with Maxime Livio and Pica D’Or in first place individually with a score of 26.4 and the French team currently in gold medal winning position with a score of 88.3

Germany is currently second on 88.9, Sweden third on 91.2 and Great Britain in fourth on 98.3.

Australia has four riders competing but all are riding as individuals with Chris Burton on Cooley Lands in fourth place on 28.3. Last year Chris won two of the classes here – the CICO3* on board Quality Purdey and the CCI2* on Limited Edition but he narrowly missed out on the trifecta when, leading the CCI1* on Lawtown Boy, he missed a fence on cross country

Chris is just behind another Antipodean rider Sir Mark Todd, also riding as an individual, on board Leonidas II with a score of 27.6 while Germany’s Andreas Ostholt has two horses in the top six with So Is Et, his team horse, in second place (26.9) and Pennsylvania 28 in fifth place (28.4). Another German rider, Jorn Warner on Vicco Pop, rounds out the top six

Emma McNab on Fernhill Tabasco is the second highest placed Australian rider in equal 24th place (31.4), Sammi Birch riding her eight-year-old The Kincooley Ceili is in equal 45th place (33.5) and Rob Palm’s Koko Pop has thankfully recovered from his injury at Aachen and is currently equal 88th (37.8)

Laura Collett is the top British rider after the dressage in seventh place on Mr Bass (28.8) while the team riders are David Doel on Eisfee (33.9), Will Furlong and Collien P 2 (31), Fiona Kashel on Creevagh Silver de Haar (34.9) and Tom Jackson on Billy Cuckoo (33.4)

The 3* riders head out onto cross country tomorrow at the beautiful venue of Le Haras Du Pin in Normandy, one of National French studs, which hosted the 2014 World Equestrian Games
