Bettina the best at Houghton International

When you’re hot, you’re hot.

It was the second CIC3* win for Bettina Hoy and Seigneur Medicott in a matter of weeks and their third CIC3* win in a row, having taken the title at Blenheim International in September 2016, the CIC3* at Chatsworth recently and now the individual win in the CICO3* at the Saracen Horse Feed Houghton International Horse Trials.

Bettina led from the outset, although she had to share first place after dressage with New Zealand’s Jesse Campbell on Cleveland, with both combinations on 35.3. However Jesse unfortunately had two rails down in the show jumping on Saturday and picked up penalties on cross country whilst Bettina and Seigneur Medicott jumped double clear in both the show jumping and on cross country.

Although Bettina had several penalties up her sleeve, she was still determined to try and finish under the optimum time, which she did with ease to finish on their dressage score.

“I actually wanted to go inside the time. I heard that some people were inside the time and I thought ‘I think I can do that as well so come on Micky, go a little bit faster’”

These wins stand Bettina in good stead for selection for the German team at the FEI European Championships in August but she also has her role as the coach for the Netherlands to consider so is adopting a 'wait and see' approach for the coming Championships
