Entries for Le Lion 2017

      Izzy Taylor and Direct Cassino

The lorries are rumbling into France this week from countries all around the world with horses and riders ready to compete at the 25th Mondial du Lion.

Held at the Haras National at l‘Isle de Briand in Le Lion d’Angers, France the FEI World Breeding Eventing Championships for Young Horses is one of the major Eventing Championships of the year.

This year there are 47 horses from 20 countries competing in the CCI1* (6YO) and 62 horses from 15 countries in the CCI2*(7YO). Last year’s CCI1* winner on Fire Fly, Chris Burton is back, this time with Lawtown Boy in the CCI2*, and he is joined from Australia by Sammi Birch on The Kincooley Ceili, Ben Leahy on Feloupe and Paul Tapner on Bob Chaplin in the CCI1*

There is a host of great British combinations in the CCI2* including William Fox-Pitt on Yes I Can, Laura Collett on Sir Papillon, Izzy Taylor on Direct Cassino, Harry Meade on Cavalier Crystal and Gemma Tattersall on Chilli Knight and of course the French are always hard to beat on home soil. Tom Carlile, a whizz at bringing on the best young horses, is competing in both classes and will certainly be one to watch

We’ll be bringing you daily updates through the lens of Libby Law who is settled in on the grounds as we write and there will be a live stream from the event but for now, here are the definite entries for each class
