On Thursday 14 September at the SsangYong Blenheim Palace International Horse Trials, it was time for the riding clubs to compete in the Dodson & Horrell Eventer Challenge classes in the Bladon Arena.

In the Dodson & Horrell 100cm Riding Club Team Eventer Challenge, Cropthorne Riding Club came out on top. The team consisted of Tracey Paxton (Kiwi), Ross Paxton (Sunset Hill), Verity Roberts (Piacenza Jmen) and Yvonne Goss (Untilla Legend).

Team manager Ian Paxton said: “The club is based near Evesham, about an hour away, and we come to this event every year. To have all four horses come together today and be the only club to go clear was amazing. They team rode their rounds quite early today so they were nervous all day waiting to find out if they had been placed, so they were very happy to have won! The whole team are very active clubs members.”

Second was the Berkeley and District Riding Club, while Northallerton Riding Club took third place. Sam Morgan, riding Trequite for the Houghton and Huntingdon Riding Club, won the style award.

In the Dodson & Horrell 90cm Riding Club Team Eventer Challenge, SWDG (South West Dressage Group) were victorious. The team was made up of Pippa Tucker (Rambo II), Kirsty Cox (Clonea Cheree), Charlotte Walters (Breaffy Bandit) and Boo Walters (Holnest Finnegan).

Lucy Greenwood, team manager of the Dorset-based club, said: “It’s our first time competing here at Blenheim and it’s been a fantastic experience. Our name is historic: we don’t just do dressage, we compete in all disciplines. It’s quite a different challenge with all the twists and turns, and it’s hard to get clears but we are thrilled we managed to be the only team who finished with no faults!”

Buckingham Riding Club was second, with Llandudno and District Riders’ Club third. The style prize went to Macey Smith from Cobham and District, riding Dancing Canderal.
