The first day of dressage is done at the NAF Five Star Hartpury International and it is Ros Canter on board Pencos Crown Jewel who leads the way in the CCI4*-S

Ros will be back on Friday with Lordships Graffalo (known at home as Walter, the horse that Ros’ home coach Caroline Moore is tipping as Ros’ hopeful World Championship ride) but for now she leads the class on Walter’s half-sister and runner-up in the CCI4*-L at Bramham with a score of 27.5

The Japanese riders are on a roll at Hartpury with Kazuma Tomoto in second and third places riding Brookpark Vikenti (28.6) and Vinci De La Vigne (29.6), Toshiyuki Tanaka in fifth riding Shane Rose’s past mount, Swiper JRA (30.9) and Ryuzo Kitijama on Feroza Nieuwmoed in sixth place (31.5)

Matt Heath riding Askari fills out fourth place (29.8) while Wesko Foundation rider Harry Mutch has been having those magical lessons with Pippa Funnell again and is in seventh place on HD Bronze

But there are plenty of big hitters to come on yet with Tom McEwen and Toledo De Kerser, MHS Brown Jack and Bob Chaplin as well as Izzy Taylor on the talented Bramham 4*-L winner Monkeying Around, Piggy March on Halo and Vanir Kamira plus Sarah Bullimore on Corouet, to name just a few!

China’s Alex Hua Tian leads the NAF Superflex CCI3-L on Jillsonne van Bareelhof (25.4) with Tom Woodward on Low Moor Lucky in second (26.2) and Ellie Fredericks, whose dad was just named on the Australian longlist for Pratoni 2022, on Pure Trendsetter in third (30.3)

The NAF M Power CCI2*-L is led by Jason Wood riding Nitor
