James Avery interview

James Avery has more than just sponsorship to thank Keyflow for .....

In 2013 the young New Zealand rider James Avery had a call from his good Kiwi friend Cam Price, Managing Director of Keyflow Feeds in England

“Do you have a girlfriend” asked Cam

“No”

“Do you have a horse”

“No”

“In which case it is about time that you come to England”

And with that advice James made his move to the other side of the world.

23 year old James, originally a farrier from Nelson in New Zealand who won the NZ National Young Rider title in 2011, says he ‘didn’t really have a plan’ when he came over but in the past three years he has worked with Tim and Jonelle Price, Tiny Clapham and more recently Ruth Edge and is now setting up on his own.

He had a good weekend at the 2016 Allerton Horse Trials with a win on Cadillac in the Open Intermediate and second in the Intermediate Novice riding Legaland Cooley while his third horse Quickly 2 had to be withdrawn due to a pulled shoe (so, who knew that even a qualified farrier cannot re-shoe his own horse during BE competition?)

Cadillac, a nine year old warmblood owned by the Silver Lining Syndicate, has had some good results this year with four top 10 placings from four starts at international 1* and 2* level and several wins at British Eventing competitions. Definitely one to watch .....

We caught up with James for a chat at Allerton Park
