The best shod horse at Burghley 2017

Mark Watson checks the horses' feet after they finish the first horse inspection

The popular saying “No hoof, no horse” still rings true today

Following the first horse inspection at the Land Rover Burghley Horse Trials, the riders are invited to submit their horse for an inspection for the best shod horse of the event, sponsored by the Worshipful Company of Farriers and judged by Mark Watson AWCF

Mark explained what he was looking for and how good shoeing can provide that ‘little extra’ performance required as this high level of competition

This year the award was won by Ivar Gooden, ridden by Imogen Murray and shod by Paul Varnam

How great that you interviewed the judge! I grilled him on the other end, after the winner was determined. I've linked to your page from The Hoof Blog. My story about the winning horse and farrier is here: https://hoofcare.blogspot.com/2017/09/burghley-best-shod-horse-2017-paul.html
What a great competition!

Great article Fran!
