Changes for Burghley in 2021

Following the announcement that the Land Rover Burghley Horse Trials will continue to take place over four days in 2021 rather than adding an extra day as had been planned before Covid-19, British Eventing has confirmed that the BE80(T) Championships will no longer take place at during the Burghley week

In 2019 British Eventing announced that the BE80(T) Championship would be moving to Burghley Horse Trials from 2020 for three years, following its successful launch at Kelsall Hill in 2018.

“Sadly, due to the COVID-19 outbreak and cancellation of Burghley 2020, the BE80(T) Championship could not take place at Burghley this year and BE were very grateful to Norton Disney for stepping in to host both the 2020 and rescheduled 2019 Championships” says Jude Matthews, BE CEO “BE will now be exploring options for the 2021 BE80(T) Championship”

The dates for the Land Rover Burghley Horse Trials 2021 are now Thursday 2nd September – Sunday 5th September. The first Horse Inspection will take place on the Wednesday (1st September).

“Like all businesses during these exceptional times we have reviewed our plans and believe that maintaining the four day format which has worked so well for so long is in the best interests of everyone associated with the event. This decision has been taken in the knowledge that all will appreciate that an event of this magnitude takes many months to plan and cannot change direction at the last moment.

2021 will be our 60th Anniversary and we are much looking forward to this celebratory event and to welcoming everyone back” says Event Director, Elizabeth Inman

Badminton Horse Trials also recently announced changes for 2021, with the CCI5* event going “Behind Closed Doors”
