Ingrid still leads at Luhmuhlen German National Championship

Ingrid Klimke and SAP Asha P on course in the German Championships at Luhmuhlen 2019

Ingrid Klimke has maintained her lead in the CCI4*-S at the German Championships in Luhmuhlen but it was the cross country ride on SAP Asha that secured the European gold medallist the top spot on Saturday with ′an absolute dream round’

Ingrid’s European gold medal winner SAP Hale Bob led after the dressage but 11 penalties for dislodging a frangible device at Fence 13 after a slight hesitation on seeing the water, and time faults dropped them to 11th place while SAP Asha P added just two time penalties to take the lead with a score of 26.6

Only two combinations were clear and under time on cross country course – Germany’s Sandra Auffarth riding Viamant Du Matz and Australia’s Andrew Hoy on Vassily De Lassos who now lie in second (26.6) and third places (28.7) respectively.

“Paula and David Evans’ Vassily De Lassos once more proved his incredible quality and speed across the country by delivering one of only two clear rounds inside the time over a very testing track - to move us up to 3rd place overnight” said Andrew on his social media as well as treating us to a ride around the course through his helmet cam

Sandra and Ingrid also have other horses in the top six with Sandra sitting in fourth place, on the same score of 28.7 as Andrew, with Let’s Dance 73 while, a few penalties behind on 32.5, Ingrid is in fifth place riding  EQUISTROs Siena Just Do It

Sophie Leube, a former student of Ingrid Klimke, has moved into the top six with her 10-year-old mare Jadore Moi with four time penalties to sit on 33.7 while Anna Katharina Vogel and Quintana P, currently leads the U25 Section of the class

Michael Jung, who was in second place after the dressage had a small hiccup at Fence 16C but cleared it, then ‘made a conscious decision’ to circle before 16D, giving him 20 penalties. The result is ‘annoying’ says Michael but regards it as a better learning experience for his horse fischerChipmunk FRH

By way of compensation however Michael still leads the CCI3*-L on board Star Connection FRH, remaining on his dressage score of 21, several penalties ahead of Anna Lena Schaff riding Deby (26.1)

Greta Busacker, Ingrid Klimke’s daughter, also holds her lead in the CCI2*-L German Junior Championship riding Scrabble 15 after a double clear cross country ride
