Andrew Nicholson wins at Rockingham

Andrew Nicholson takes the CIC1* win on the six year old As Is

An Eventful Life is filming all competitors on cross country at Rockingham - more details here

Andrew Nicholson told us in our interview at Badminton that he has learned to savour the moment of big wins as time moves quickly in this sport and you are soon onto the next event. Indeed, since his momentous win two weeks ago Andrew has competed multiple horses at Chatsworth and Mount Ballan but today he picked up his first win since lifting the CCI4* trophy

Riding the six year old Spanish bred horse As Is at the horse’s first CIC1*, Andrew took the win with a score of 42.4, adding nothing to their dressage score and moving ahead of Piggy French in second place on Big Berry (45) and Georgie Strang on Capels Hollow Drift (47.9). Andrew also finished 10th on another six year old horse he really rates, Andrea BT4

The CIC1* overnight leader, another New Zealander James Avery, dropped out of contention with some rails in the show jumping and 20 penalties on cross country but James made up for that with a win in the CIC2* on Zazu

More about James’ win to come but first we had a chat with Andrew to find out more about his talented young Spanish horses, his ride today and what has been happening since Badminton (including more about Nereo’s 30 year old paddock companion, Smartie Dibben, that became a Facebook celebrity after Badminton)
