Catton Park Eventing 2022

An Eventful Life is filming all competitors on cross country at Catton Park 2022

The iconic setting of Catton Park is just one of many reasons riders are heading back to this premier Midlands event.

Held on the Derbyshire and Staffordshire borders, this year’s event takes place on June 18 and 19 after a three year break.

This historic estate has held a horse trials over the 250 acre parkland since 1993 but with owners Robin and Katie Neilson retiring, this year’s horse trials will be managed by the team at BEDE Events, working alongside the Neilson’s son, Oliver.

Said Stuart Buntine of BEDE Events: “We are really determined to re-establish Catton Park back on the eventing calendar.   It is a truly fantastic venue and are hoping competitors will support the re-working of the event and come along and compete.

“The new cross-country course has been re-routed to take out the woodland tracks with more of the course on the superb parkland turf.

“We have designed and built a new water complex and the event sits really well in the calendar as a great way to kick-start the second half of the season.

“Catton Park ran successfully for more than 20 years and is so central for many competitors and my wife, Anna and I were so delighted when the Neilson’s asked us to take it on.

“The horse trial’s is one of just two in Derbyshire and we have a good range of sections for competitors across the board and want the first event back to be a fantastic one with bumper entries.”

Sections running include BE100, 100 Open, Five-year-old, Novice, Open Novice, Open Novice Under 18, Intermediate and Open Intermediate.

Catton is a glorious private Estate ideally situated in the centre of England and perfectly laid out for events.  The 250 acres of surrounding parkland have been in the hands of the same family since 1405 and the present Hall, built in the 1740s, is the home of the Neilson family and currently run by Oliver and Lindsay Neilson.

The present house, originally designed by James Gibbs and built by Smith of Warwick for Christopher Horton stands on the banks of the River Trent.
