A few years ago, Libby Law followed New Zealand’s Lizzie Brown around for a “Day In The Life Of” gallery on our website, saying “Here’s just another 'NORMAL' Sunday in the World of Eventing”

Indeed, the event run at Cholmondeley Castle each year by Musketeer Events is usually a fairly low- key affair, running classes from BE90 to Intermediate and popular with local riders. Sadly last year the torrential rain leading up to the event that persisted throughout meant that the event only ran for one day

This year everything is very different in a Covid-19 world but local riders will still be making a visit, with the World Number One, Oliver Townend who lives nearby in Shropshire, heading the entry list. And it is an entry list to behold …..

Due to recent events being cancelled, Cholmondeley has extended its classes to four days of competition with the BE90 classes all on Saturday, the BE100's mainly on Sunday and Monday and most of the Novice classes spread across Sunday, Monday and Tuesday while the Intermediate classes are mainly on Monday and Tuesday

The Open Intermediate sections are packed with big names and some of their best or seriously up-and-coming horses. Get ready for Oliver Townend (who has 13 horses entered across the classes) riding Ballaghmor Class, Cillnabradden Evo and Cooley Master Class, Miss Cooley and Arklow Puissance; World Number Two, New Zealand’s Tim Price will also has five OI rides on Kincooley Cruising, Happy Boy, Falco IV, Spartaco and LVS Moviestar while World Number Four Piggy March is trouncing both the boys with eight rides in the Open Intermediate on board Brookfield Inocent, Brookfield Quality, Dargun, Vanir Kamira, Cooley Lancer, Fonbherna Lancer, Marchwood and Sportsfield Top Notch

The current World Champions, Ros Canter and Allstar B, will also be making an appearance in the Open Intermediate; Ros has seven rides with six in the OI and her teammate Tom McEwen has his CCI5* Pau winner Toledo De Kerser amongst his rides

There are many, many more great riders from across the nations on a weekend when we should all be watching Tokyo 2020 play out; Izzy Taylor, Jonelle Price, Alex Hua Tian, Gemma Tattersall, Carlos Parro, Laura Collett to name just a few will be at Cholmondeley along with lots of up and coming stars.

Australians are a bit thin on the ground with just Andrew Hoy coming across to Cheshire, riding Basmati in the Open Intermediate.

We’ll be bringing you updates across the days, a full wrap-up mid-next week and lots of great videos coming up. Stay tuned, but in the meantime, enjoy a ride around the 2018 Open Intermediate course with winner Patricia Pytches on CES Ballycar Chip who will be back again this year ......
