On her first visit to Kelsall Hill Equestrian Centre in Cheshire, Izzy Taylor took home a win today in the headline class, the Protect My Income Advanced Intermediate on board Monkeying Around as well as second place riding Fonbherna Lancer

Izzy and the aptly named Monkeying Around led from go to whoa, starting with a dressage score of 28.1 and adding nothing to it on Captain Mark Phillips’ course before heading into the reverse order show jumping late in the afternoon.

Paul Sims and Last Secret jump into third place

Izzy had already jumped clear on Fonbherna Lancer, who also finished on his dressage score of 30.9 to secure second place when Oliver Townend on Ulises had one rail down to drop to fourth place. Oliver, a multiple winner of the top class here, was overtaken by Paul Sims, another past winner, on Last Secret with a lovely clear round for third place.

Oliver didn’t go home empty handed, winning one of the Intermediate Sections on Newmarket Caro, and he is back tomorrow for the final day at Kelsall Hill before heading to Kentucky.

We spoke to Izzy after her win about the ‘cheeky but special’ Monkeying and the sensitive Fonbherna Lancer
