Three ladies enjoyed wins in the classes aimed at those moving up from BE100 at Little Downham (2) last weekend

BE105 is a bridge between BE100 and Novice classes and the 14.2 grey mare Chadenn D’Aven ridden by Florence Ashmore made it look easy, winning the BE105 class on their dressage score of 30.80 and eating up the cross country course

Chadenn D’Aven is owned by Project Pony, which aims to help ‘young, talented jockeys to fulfil their dream and give them an opportunity they otherwise would not have had’. Florence and Chadenn D’Aven certainly seem to be making the very most of that opportunity together

Trudy Johnson took the prestigious Novice Masters title at after a commanding win with the 10-year-old gelding Catch Me If U Can.

Trudy and Catch Me If U Can finished almost 10 marks ahead of the rest of the field, adding just 1.2 time penalties in the cross country to a good dressage score of 23.8. It was a strong performance all-round from the pair – delivering the second quickest cross country round in the class and producing one of just three clear rounds in the show jumping

The Novice Masters was developed in 2021 with the Rider Working Group representing riders at Novice level and above and in conjunction with the Eventing Riders Association of Great Britain, which makes it extra special for Trudy

“Having been part of the Rider Working Group team that devised the idea of the series and being involved in its development, I am chuffed to bits to have actually won!”

The next Masters competition in the calendar will be the Novice Masters at Allerton Park in North Yorkshire from 17-18 September

Gillian Mason and Trinity O’Really won the CCI1* class, added to Little Downham’s schedule to replace the cancelled Chilham Park fixture

The pair have had a string of wins at BE100 Open level this year but this was their first start at CCI1* and a very good one too. They added just four penalties in the show jumping to their dressage score of 29.2 and had a great run on cross country

The CCI1* requires competitors to have 3x MERs at BE100/BE105/BE100plus, and is the perfect step up from BE100 and an intro to international competition.
