Teams for 2021 European Eventing Championships, Avenches

For the first time since 1983, the FEI Eventing European Championship is being organized in Switzerland and will take place from September 23rd - 26th 2021 at the Institut Equestre National Avenches (IENA).

Ireland

Irish Eventing team manager Sally Corscadden has named her squad for the upcoming FEI Eventing European Championships

The Irish squad is as follows:

  • Clare Abbott with Jewelent (ISH) – owned by – Catherine Abbott, Barbra Allen and Lisa Rosbothm
  • Cathal Daniels with LEB Lias Jewel (ISH) – owned by Jo Breheny
  • Padraig McCarthy with Leonidas II – owned by – Diane Brunsden, Peter Cattell and Padraig McCarthy or Fallulah – owned by Amanda Boyle, Nicholas Boyle, Diane Brunsden, Peter Cattell and Padraig McCarthy

Switzerland

 

   Robin Godel and Grandeur de Lully CH took the Swiss National Championship at IENA Avenches in June

 

The Eventing Selection Commission of the Swiss Equestrian Sports Federation FSSE has made the following selection for the FEI European Championship Eventing;

Team Manager Dominik Burger says that “The Tokyo Olympics were not an easy time, but now you have to get up, move on and keep fighting. To participate in the European Championship in our own country and this so soon after the Olympic Games - it is a challenge, but also an opportunity. We have an excellent team and we will do everything we can to offer the public very good sport and the best possible result per team. "

In addition to the team manager, the riders will be accompanied by Antonia Müller, team veterinarian, and mentored by Cross coach Andrew Nicholson and Jumping coach Lesley McNaught.

 

Great Britain
 

Nicola Wilson, individual bronze medallist and team silver medallist the 2017 Europeans, and 2017 team silver medallist Ros Canter are back on a team together at Avenches in 2020

 

British Equestrian and the British Eventing Selectors have named the six horse and rider combinations to represent Great Britain at the FEI Eventing European Championship in Avenches, Switzerland, from 22–26 September this year. 

Listed in alphabetical order by athlete surname, the squad of six is:

  • Sarah Bullimore (48) based in Keysoe, Bedfordshire, with the Kew Jumping Syndicate, Brett Bullimore and her own Corouet (chestnut, gelding, 10yrs, 15.2hh, Balou du Rouet x Lovis Corinth, Breeder: Sarah Bullimore GBR, Groom: to be confirmed)
  • Rosalind Canter (35) based in Hallington, Lincolnshire, with Caroline Moore and her own Allstar B (bay, gelding, 16yrs, 17hh, Ephebe For Ever x Erkstein, Breeder: FAJ Van der Burg NED) and as a direct reserve, Michele Saul’s Lordships Graffalo (bay, gelding, 9yrs, 17hh, Grafenstolz x Rock King, Breeder: Lordships Stud Writtle College GBR, Groom: Sarah Charnley)

  • Nicola Wilson (44) based in Northallerton, North Yorkshire, with Deirdre Johnston and James and Jo Lambert’s JL Dublin (dark brown, gelding, 10yo, 16.2hh, Diarados Cheeky Boy x Cantano, Breeder: Volker Coettsche-Goetze GER, Groom: Ruth Asquith)

 

Eventing Performance Manager Richard Waygood commented; “I’m very excited about this selection for the Europeans. It invests in the here and now and in the future by providing development opportunities for potential combinations for Paris and beyond.”

The team of four and two individuals will be announced at a later date.

Selection decisions are subject to the athletes and horses maintaining fitness and performance, and this list may be amended at any stage.

 

    The gold medal winning German team at Luhmuhlen European Championships 2019

 

Germany

In 2019, Germany won their home European Championship in Luhmühlen, ahead of Great Britain and Sweden while Ingrid Klimke won Individual gold with SAP Hale Bob.

   The Riders in Orange (The Netherlands) took silver in the Nations Cup at Haras Le Pin
 

The Netherlands

The team selected to represent The Netherlands at the FEI Eventing European Championships have already had a pre-run trial at the Nations Cup in August and their team coach, Andrew Heffernan says that "The Team Spirit was great in Haras du Pin, I am looking forward to working with this group again in Avanches."

Sanne de Jong, Aliene Ruyter and Jordy Wilken were part of the team that finished second in the FEI Nations Cup at Haras du Pin and they will be joined by Janneke Boonzaadjer, who represented The Netherlands at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games and the very experienced Merel Blom at her fourth European Championships
