Swedish eventing team announced for Tokyo 2020

   Ludwig Svennerstål and Balham Mist

Sweden has announced the travelling team for eventing at Tokyo 2020

The team members are

  • Louise Romeike on Cato
  •  Ludwig Svennerstål on Balham Mist
  • Therese Viklund on Viscera
  • Reserve: Sara Algotsson Ostholt on Chicuelo

“It has been very difficult to choose three team riders from the four. They are all very strong riders and have had really good results. The three horses in the team have a little more experience than Sara's horse, on the other hand Sara has plenty of experience herself” says the Swedish Chef d’Equipe Fredrik Bergendorff.

Tokyo will be the third Olympic Games for Ludwig Svennerstål who has competed at London 2012 (the youngest competitor in the field) and Rio 2016.

It is the first Olympic cap for both Louise Romeike and Therese Viklund. Sara Algotsson has competed at three Olympic Games and won Individual silver at London 2012.

“Having Sara and her knowledge and experience feels not only great for me, but also for the other riders. It is very valuable and a great advantage to have her on site in Tokyo. If we also need to replace her in the team, it will be super good as well, she is very close to the others in terms of results” says Fredrik Bergendorff.

Before leaving for Tokyo, all Swedish horses will be quarantined in Aachen, Germany and will have extra reserves readying in quarantine
