2018 Monart Sale

Monart Graduate, Lassban Diamond Lift ridden by Bill Levett enters the arena at the Tryon World Equestrian Games

The annual Monart Sale, ‘Ireland’s only elite event horse sale run by riders’, is to be held from 5th – 7th November at the Monart Equestrian Centre in Ireland

Set in 100 acres of prime grassland, Monart is near the picturesque town of Enniscorthy in County Wexford, 75 miles south of Dublin and the purpose built Equestrian Centre with its own cross country course is the perfect place to view and trial the young horses in the two days prior to the sale.

It is also just two minutes’ walk away from the 5* Monart Resort; the perfect place to enjoy a relaxing weekend whilst buying that next superstar eventer and it is now on our bucket list of ‘eventing places to stay’

The sale is run by three 4* star riders - Bill Levett, Niall Griffin, Polly Jackson – assisted by the Irish team vet Marcus Swail.

“It is a very unique sale and we pride ourselves as being a sale run by riders for riders” explains Polly “We have been selling some of the best young event horses that Ireland has to offer for nine years now, allowing buyers to buy directly from Irish breeders and producers and avoiding the large expense of some agents”

“The sale at Monart also means that buyers can avoid the long hours of travelling the length and breadth of the country in the search of good horses. We aim to provide all of our buyers with the most enjoyable, transparent and stress free buying experience possible, all done with that bit of luxury - something that only Monart can offer”

This year over 400 horses were presented to the team for selection, from which 140 were selected making Monart the largest select eventing horse sale in the world. This a huge credit to Irish breeders and producers as they continue to breed the top quality event horses, with Irish horses filling five of the top 10 places at Badminton and eight out of the top 10 at Burghley this year.

“We are becoming the main source for many top international riders from around the world to re-stock their yards with talented young Irish horses” adds Polly “They feel they get value for their money and they return year on year, with the likes of Astier Nicolas (FRA), Ben Hobday (GBR), Flora Harris (GBR), Vicky Brake (GBR), Giovanni Ugolotti (ITA), Michael & Trish Ryan (IRE), Jörge Kurbel (GER) and Kathryn Robinson (CAN) choosing horses at Monart”

“We too (the Panel) also buy all our young horses from the Sale, truly putting our money where our mouth is”

One of those is Bill Levett’s Lassban Diamond Lift who competed for Australia at the 2018 World Equestrian Games in Tryon; other Sale graduates now competing at top level include Heather Morris’s 3 * winner Charlie Tango (USA), Jonty Evans’ Rio Olympic ride Cooley Rorkes Drift (Ireland), Flora Harris’ 3* ride Monart Masterpiece (Britain) and J.P Sheffield’s 3* ride Kilcannon Watervalley Wizard (Britain). Monart graduates are consistently excelling at the highest level in their age groups.
