Firle Place will be the first event to host the inaugural Science Supplements Area Festival this weekend on 15th & 16th May in the South Downs National Park in the village of Firle, Sussex.

Organised by the team at BEDE Events, the Area Festival classes (BE80 – Saturday and Sunday, BE90 – Sunday and BE100 & BE100Open – Saturday) will run alongside the normal classes at these levels.

The Area Festivals are aimed at grassroots riders competing at BE80(T), BE90 and BE100 level, including their respective Open classes and the Open Area Championship classes provide a new opportunity for riders competing horses with grading points. The Area Festivals also incorporate the Area Qualifier classes leading to the National BE80(T) Championship and the National BE90 and BE100 Championship at Badminton, replacing the Regional Finals.

“We are delighted to be able to give competitors the opportunity to compete at Firle Place. These new classes running alongside the Area Championships and Area Qualifiers will really add to the occasion” says Said Stuart Buntine of BEDE

“Everyone involved recognises the season started late and the new Science Supplements Area Festival has come round really quickly so the opportunity to give more riders a run across this idyllic estate is just great news.

“We are delighted to be working with the All England Jumping Course, Hickstead at Firle, and they will be supplying us with the show jumps for the event. Our building team have also been working on some exciting new fences and combinations for the cross country phase”

The show jumping will take place in front of the house, which riders may recognise as the filming venue for Jane Austen’s classic Emma, starring Anya Taylor-Joy, Bill Nighy, Johnny Flynn and Miranda Hart.
