How did the courses at the South of England (1) ride? Check ou these winning rides by Gaspard Maksud (Open Intermediate winner on Zaragoza II), Ellie Fredericks (Intermediate winner on Madorior) and Alana Sparrow (BE100 winner)

In the Intermediate Section P, many heading for Burnham Market treated it as a combined training, though one of those entered did capitalise by running cross-country; Gaspard Maksud taking the top spot with She’s The One and he also took the sole OI section Q with Zaragoza II (watch their video above) the concluding section from an action-packed weekend.

Ellie Fredericks, the 18-year-old daughter of Australian Olympians Lucinda and Clayton, didn’t just notch up double clears and placings on five horses competing in eight sections at five different events in nine days, she also rode in two events on the same day.

Having ridden the pony stallion Britannia’s Bijou into second place at Larkhill Horse Trials, Ellie was then picked up and taken to South of England where she rode her beloved, Mandorior to win Intermediate Section Q, adding eight cross-country time penalties to their dressage score of 30.7 penalties.

The BE100 Section G was headed by the 2019 Badminton Grassroots Champion, Alana Sparrow, this time riding Annabel Blake’s rising seven-year-old, Classictop Miss Vivienne, a mare she describes as “Honestly gorgeous - she’s really low mileage but so chilled and gives such a nice feeling. Over the winter she’s really developed and become more balanced, stronger and developed her paces really naturally.”
