Entries are open for the 2024 Barefoot Retreats Burnham Market Horse Trials, to take place from from 12th – 14th April in Norfolk.
It is a very special year for the event, run by Musketeer Event Management, as it celebrates its 25th Anniversary. During that time, one man has stood out as the King of Burnham Market, with the current World Number One Oliver Townend having won the main class (now CCI4*) a massive 15 times between 2007 and 2023.
In other highlights over the years, William Fox-Pitt made a welcome return to competition at Burnham Market International 2016, the first time he competed following a serious fall at Le Lion d’Angers Young Event Horse Championship in 2015.
He took a steady run around the Intermediate to get his mojo back on two of his ‘old faithfuls’ Cool Mountain and Parklane Hawk. The Kentucky 4* (now 5*) winner and silver medallist at the World Equestrian Games in 20210, Cool Mountain was one of the first horses William rode as he started to recover and the first horse he rode again in competition at Burnham Market 2016.
Burnham Market International 2023 saw the last competition run of Badminton and Burghley winning horse, Vanir Kamira ridden by Piggy March, when they finished second to Laura Collett’s Dacapo in the CCI4*-S; the famous mare known as Tilly was formally retired in a ceremony at Burghley later in the year.
No doubt Burnham Market International will have many more great stories in the future, starting with the winners of this year’s classes!
In its 25th year the event will also be supporting the East Anglia Air Ambulance as its official charity at both Burnham Market Horse Trials
Entries are now open for the 2024 International CCI3*-S and CCI4*-S classes plus national level Advanced, Open Intermediate, Intermediate, Novice, Open Novice, BE100, BE100Open, ONu18 and OIu21 levels. Ballot date is 19th March.
