After a weekend of Tokyo 2020, British Grassroots Championships, British International Youth Championships and British National Championships, everyone must be quite exhausted!
But the second half of the season is just getting underway and this weekend we are at the Childeric Saddles Little Downham (2) Horse Trials
It may a little cooler than Tokyo (thank heavens) but the competition will still be hot, albeit at lower levels and there are Olympic squad and medallists on the lists. It seems that having a silver medal doesn’t guarantee you a spot at the very popular event in Cambridgeshire as Australia’s Kevin McNab is currently balloted in the Novice but he does have two in the Open Novice - Global Victory and Cute Girl.
He will have some strong competition in this class with Piggy March starting I Diablo Joe and the gorgeous ex-racehorse Our Old Fella.
Sarah Bullimore had a very good event at Little Downham (1) in June and she returns with Corimiro, winner of the 5 Year Old class and Quiwi Sprite, winner of a BE100 class here in June
Saturday sees three Novice sections and the Open Novice take place plus the second leg of the Novice Masters. Harriet Ford and According To Archie, winners of the first leg at Barbury International, are competing and looking to add to their points tally so keep an eye on them
Two BE105 classes and BE100 classes also run on Saturday while Sunday sees the BE80(T), BE90 and two more BE100 classes take place
As well as the British Eventing Novice Masters, Little Downham Horse Trials is also running two new leagues for the 2021 season.
Thanks to the generosity of Shearwater Insurance and Baileys Horse Feeds grassroots and Novice riders will be able to aim for an end of season bonus, with prizes worth over £1,000.
BE90 and BE100 competitors will aim for a share of a £2,500 bonus prize that will see the league winner handed £800 prize money plus a training package with Tina Ure (UKCC Level 4) at Ely Eventing Centre. You can find out more on the Little Downham Event Hub here
